Bed of Roses - A Listening Guide

The Beagles debut CD features harmony hooks and sultry seductions in a power pop package – with 17 tracks produced by Lon Van Eaton (an Apple Records artist who regularly collaborated with George and Ringo) and 2 self produced by Rob Freeman. Lyrical themes include good times, dreams, romance, the male gaze and the female pedestal. As it packs a wide range of musical approaches into its 78 minutes, here is a guide to what you will hear:

  • Harmony hooks fill Happy Happy (1), Love In Summertime (3), Look Around (5), Marry My Music (7) & Produce Music (12);
  • Vanessa’s rockin’ vox lead the charge on Think Tank (2), Hair Hang Down (6) & Live For You (13);
  • Rock with Rob on power pop tunes like Present Tense (10), Lasting Impression (14) & Yo Yo Man (18);
  • Swoon to Vanessa’s sultry seductive takes on Oil Painting (4), Love Story (8), Came To Me (11) & Singin’ Shower Again (17); and hear Rob turn romantic on Beauty In My Sight (9);
  • Vanessa & Rob show their range as a lead vocal duo, inspired by the country stylings of Gram & Emmylou on the title track Bed of Roses (16) and the jazzy approach of Ella & Louis on Singin' in the Shower (15) – redone solo Ella style as Singin’ Shower Again (17);
  • Ynes Simone leads the reprise of Oil Painting (19), with help from Rob and Vanessa and all three swapping ad libs to wrap things up.

The Beagles hope you enjoy listening to their debut CD and checking out these diverse musical experiences as much as they enjoyed creating them.
